The Values of LIPSCHULE

Our vision as a private school

Findings from neurobiological research show that children and young people have very individual ways of acquiring skills. As an educational institution we therefore feel we have a responsibility to create an environment in which they can develop to their full potential. We do so by providing an excellent basis for the permanent accumulation of knowledge. This approach, based on a humanistic view of mankind combined with constructivist educational methodology, is one we adhere to at all teaching levels.

A pleasant atmosphere and committed, compassionate teachers are the key to the strong achievements of our pupils. This applies from Cycle 1 – where we teach according to the principles of the Montessori method – up Cycle 2 and 3. It is our diverse forms of imparting knowledge, the personal support we provide as well as our bright, spacious rooms that fuel the motivation of the children entrusted to us. Instead of causing unnecessary pressure by giving marks, for more than ten years LIPSCHULE has been making competence-oriented assessments as a way to specifically engage with individual talents.

Our enhanced forms of learning encourage pupils to show initiative. Being able to jointly define their objectives and enjoy a certain amount of freedom in drawing up their study schedules helps pupils to follow their natural impulses and mature into self-determining personalities. We help children and young people to cultivate subject skills, general competencies, team spirit, self-reflection and an awareness of others by encouraging them to research topics taught, network on a project-by-project basis and subsequently present the results acquired.

Talented support at LIPSCHULE Zurich

There are many different types of talent. We believe that all children have a right to appropriate support. This is why we are committed to getting parents, teachers and other experts to work together. At regular status reviews we jointly define the goals to serve as a framework for individual ongoing development. This enables our pupils to realize their creative, artistic or sporting potential to optimum effect.

Children of kindergarten and primary school age already possess a disposition for networked thinking and acting. To stimulate this, they not only need inner drive but outside input as well. This is where we come in with our dedicated mentored learning. We also organize courses and workshops at sports clubs, children’s universities and private institutions or invite experts to come to us.

Children with special gifts are usually perfectly aware of their strengths and weaknesses. The strengths need to be built on and the weaknesses minimized. Practising age-appropriate learning and work techniques helps pupils to acquire more structure. Solution-based learning is not just a slogan for us, but everyday reality.

Whether your child is sporty, interested in art or prefers to make music is actually immaterial. He or she is definitely at the right place with us here at LIPSCHULE. We offer pupils with sporting ambitions personalized timetables that accommodate their needs and training schedules. Musical and creative talents don’t miss out either. They also have high priority on our syllabus.

Our private day school is part of Netzwerk Begabungsförderung, a talented support network whose policies we follow. We have a general system in place that allows us a considerable degree of flexibility at all levels. Through cross-curricular learning processes we encourage personal initiative and provide the necessary space and time. In doing so, we focus strongly on nurturing a healthy self-confidence in our pupils.

At our public school, we believe in the systematic promotion of highly gifted children through constructivist pedagogy and skills-orientated teaching, particularly in the areas of music, art and sport.

Healthy Nutrition

Learn better thanks to the right diet

Balanced meals are crucial to being receptive to learning. Concentrated working calls for a regular supply of energy. And our brains consume more than one fifth of our calorie requirements. To help your children build up knowledge, our school kitchen serves our students snacks and meals prepared according to the latest findings in nutritional science. These carefully balanced meals consist of complex carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. We can also meet dietary needs based on religious observance or health aspects. As well as having their hunger satisfied, our students will benefit all round from an enhanced sense of well-being.

Special needs

Very open to special needs

Every child is unique. And that is precisely why we think it is wrong to expect the same results from all our pupils. It is therefore our declared aim also to meet the needs of those among them struggling with learning or motivational difficulties. Our teachers are not only trained to recognize problems early, they also know how to transform weaknesses into strengths. The underlying idea behind this form of support is to build up a solid, trust-based relationship between students and teachers.
