Why doesn’t my boss give me grades?

There are other forms of performance appraisals that say a lot more about who you are as a person.

When speaking about performance appraisals, the classic grading system is far from the end of the flagpole. This is shown by the fact that this has only established itself in very few areas of social co-existence. That’s why the Lipschule uses a more holistic evaluation in the everyday school life.

School grades only account for a small part of the many abilities of your child. We don’t only assess your child’s talent in math or foreign languages but also their methodological, social and personal competencies. To do this we not only use class work and tests but we also depend on personal conversations, individual learning dialogues and portfolios. Additionally, we rely on formative, goal-orientated and prognostic assessments. This means that first we look at where the students are in their learning process. Then we can set a goal together with the student, show them how they can reach this goal and continuously review their progress.

This can also be seen in our classroom lessons: These pursue the aim of optimal support for our students – beyond the school material. Another benefit of the competence-orientated assessments is the reduction of pressure to perform due to eliminating the possibility of comparison. This is all entirely done by following the Lehrplan 21, which advises using this method.
